All New Main Line All-Girls Futsal League at the Baldwin School

The first season of the Main Line All-Girls Futsal League is an exciting opportunity for girls travel soccer teams U9-U18 as well as high school teams.

COMPETITION
Carefully analyzed according to PAGS stats, tournament play, and specific coaches requests - to ensure that each game is competitive.

REFEREES
Chosen from experienced female college players fromVillanova University, Haverford & Bryn Mawr Colleges, who are not only knowledgeable about the game, but also passionate about girls soccer!

In addition, each week we will be featuring a different expert dedicated to improving the female athlete. This will be a table set up where players and parents can speak to the expert and gather information about such topics as nutrition – with specific information about pre-game/post game recommendations, athletic training – prevention of injuries, speed training, dynamic stretching vs. static stretching, and other important topics.

What is futsal?

The word futsal is derived from the Spanish or Portuguese word for “soccer”, futbol or futebol, and the French or Spanish word for “indoor”, salon or sala. Futsal is played in all continents of the world by over 100 countries with 12 million players.

FUTSAL BASICS

5 players (including goalkeepers) - unlimited roster
#4 Ball – 30 % less bounce
Played on a basketball court
Futsal goal size 2m x 3m
Unlimited "flying" substitutions
Kick-ins
40 minute games
4-second rule on restarts
No offside rule

WH
Y PLAY FUTSAL?

  • Ball Touches:  In a game of Futsal, players touch the ball 210% more than players playing traditional indoor arena soccer!!
  • Ball Control:  With limited space,  an out of bounds and constant opponent pressure, improved ball control skills and technique are required..
  • Speed of Play:  Without the walls, futsal is a great skill-developer, demanding quick reflexes, fast thinking, and pin-point passing.  Players become better team players and understand how to move and support each other.
  • Great soccer superstars such as Marta, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Pele, Zico and Socrates grew up playing the game and credit Futsal with developing their skills.
  • Futsal is played with a special low bounce ball, requiring players to use their skills, rather than the ball's bounce, to propel it.
  • Futsal is the only version of indoor soccer sanction by FIFA (the world governing body of soccer). It is fast, challenges players, forces players to be creative and become more skillful.

"In futsal you need to think quick and play quick so it's easier for you when you move to normal football (outdoor soccer)." -Pele

Paulo Ferreira of the American Futsal Academy did a free clinic at the Baldwin School for players participating in the Main Line All-Girls Futsal League.
